It might be a gimmick but it’s a good one! The world’s first driveable “Ultimate Deckchair” was unveiled on Brighton beach and with a bikini babe lying on it, it got lots of attention from hundreds of holidaymakers.

Commissioned and built by car hire comparison site Holiday Autos, the chair for two – designed by artist Solomon Rogers – has an on-board parasol rigged to a GPS tracker. It follows the movement of the sun, providing the perfect level of shade.

There are even wind breaks which also act as privacy screens and  retractable towels ensure everything is kept dry and sand free. There’s more – sun-cream, drinks and book holders, a stereo system and refrigerated slushy machine.

Designer Solomon said: “I was commissioned by Holiday Autos to make the holiday experience better than ever before and we wanted beachgoers to enjoy a day at the seaside without having to worry about overcrowding, sand getting everywhere and forgetting the sun cream.

“The ultimate deckchair takes the traditional design and builds on it to provide holidaymakers with the very best seaside experience possible – whilst hopefully also raising a smile.”

Michael Callaghan of Holiday Autos said: “Our job is to inject as much fun, freedom and frivolity into holidays as possible – something The Ultimate Deckchair most certainly does. It seems to have gone down a storm in Brighton, so it looks likely that we will take to the road and head to some of the beautiful sandy beaches around Europe”.
