Who is your WOW woman? Airline launches competition to celebrate International Women’s Day

You have to know someone who is worthy of being called a WOW woman. Icelandic low-cost airline WOW air is celebrating International Women’s Day by asking Brits to nominate a special woman in their lives, as part of their #WOWWOMAN campaign.

The winning nominee will be awarded a free trip to any WOW air destination in the US or Iceland.

Go to Facebook and Instagram to show your love and gratitude for one special woman in your life. WOW air hopes that the sharing of feel-good and inspiring stories of women in the UK will build a sense of community, in the lead-up to International Women’s Day on March 8.

Entrants must explain why their nominee should be WOW air’s #WOWWOMAN and provide an image of their nominee. To validate the entry, entrants must post the image and reasoning via either a Facebook post, Instagram post or Instagram story, use the hashtag #WOWWOMAN and tag @WOWair in their post.

In Iceland, gender equality is held in high regard, with the nation having the Western world’s highest proportion of women in the labour market*, significant child care allocations for working women, and extensive parental leave for both men and women. Iceland was also the first country to democratically elect a female president – Vigdis Finnbogadottir in 1980.

The social-led #WOWWOMAN campaign will run from until midday on March 8. All entries must be posted within this timeframe to be in with a chance of winning, and the winner will be announced via WOW air’s Instagram and Facebook pages on March 8.

From the entries, WOW air will select one #WOWWOMAN to win a return trip for them and a plus one to any WOW air destination in the US, or Iceland. WOW air currently services routes from the UK to Iceland, New York, Washington D.C, Boston, Detroit, Toronto and Montreal. Fares start from £29.99 one-way from London to Iceland, and from £139.99 one-way from London to North America.

WOW air services 26 destinations across Europe and North America, with daily departures to Reykjavik from Gatwick (until March 30) and Stansted (from March 31).
