Virgin Trains East Coast is toasting its 150 days in service with Prosecco. The train line has added the £6 a bottle tipple to its on-board menu as it also celebrates being named the highest-ranked operator for customer service.

Highlights on the Virgin Trains East Coast route include:

London with global landmarks at its heart including the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London.

Lincoln with its stunning cathedral and castle and featuring summer celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.

York with its spectacular Minster, medieval Shambles, Castle Museum and right next to the station, the National Railway Museum telling the story of Britain’s love affair with the train.

Leeds offering great shopping from the on-trend Trinity Leeds complex close to the station to the Victorian variety of the City Markets and the Yorkshire Dales just a short train ride away.

Durham dominated by the breathtaking Cathedral and Castle, towering over cobbled streets leading to the wooded banks of the River Wear.

NewcastleGateshead welcoming thousands of visitors every year to its world-class waterfront, featuring The Sage Gateshead, the Baltic art gallery and the seven bridges over the River Tyne – and superb shopping at Eldon Square and the MetroCentre.

Northumberland Coast accessible from Alnmouth or Berwick-upon-Tweed, including the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh Castle and boat trips to view the amazing bird life of the Farne Islands.
