North Cyprus still open for business

“Don’t stop coming on holiday here” was the message this week from North Cyprus tourist chiefs. They’ve asked YourHols to let people know that they are unaffected by the financial crisis hitting Cyprus and remind them that the currency in the North is Turkish Lira and not Euros.

A spokesman said: “Cyprus may be on the front pages for all the wrong reasons at the moment, but the island is still tempting visitors away from the wintry UK with its sunny temperatures. Visitors to the resorts such as Kyrenia (above) and Famagusta in the North are, fortunately, not affected by the current financial crisis.

“The currency in the North is the Turkish Lira, and with a generous exchange rate of 2.7 Lira to the pound, holidays here provide great value for money. The low cost of eating out, getting around and shopping for souvenirs provides great value for money. Banks are open as usual in North Cyprus so there is no reason for tourists in the North to worry about holiday cash.”

The North Cyprus Tourism Centre has just launched a new website to promote the attractions of North Cyprus. See www.welcometonorthcyprus.co.uk to find out what to see and do on your holiday.

There are still some great holiday deals for Easter and throughout April and May so it isn’t too late to book a spring or early summer break. Keen ramblers will love exploring the beautiful mountain scenery and there’s still time to spot the rare wild orchids, which are in bloom at this time of year.
