November 24: Latest news on Sharm el Sheikh flights

Sharm el Sheikh flights

easyJet and BA have cancelled all flights to Sharm el Sheikh until next year.

The news is a blow to thousands of UK holidaymakers due to visit the Red Sea resort over the next few weeks including Christmas and New Year.

easyJet said that people who had flights booked to Sharm can get a refund, have a voucher to use on future flights or book another destination.

BA also said customers can get a refund or use the value of the ticket or holiday towards an alternative break.

easyJet originally cancelled flights until November 25, because of security concerns after the bombing of a Russian plane, but today extended that until at least January 6.

BA said its flights to Sharm are suspended until January 14.

It’s now thought Thomson and Thomas Cook may extend their ban on flights. Monarch has a ban until December 19.

Sharm el Sheikh relies on tourism and it is peak season for the winter sun resort.

easyJet said they made the decision so that families can make new arrangements for the Christmas holiday period.
