Craicing fun at Irish street festival

Sprog Waterford festival

Take the kids to a festival of music, dance and circus acts. The three-day Spraoi International Street Arts Festival will feature more than 250 events and attract 35,000 visitors in Waterford, Ireland. Sponsors Irish Ferries have travel and accommodation packages for the event on August 2, 3 and 4.

Spraoi is ideal for families, with child-friendly shows and Sprog – the kids’ own festival – running alongside. The highlight is Sunday’s street parade of colourful floats and costumed performers bringing the atmosphere of a Mediterranean fiesta to the ancient Irish city and ending with a Pyrofantasia firework display over the River Suir at 9.30pm.

Waterford is an hour’s drive from Rosslare ferry port, where Irish Ferries’ ship Isle of Inishmore docks twice a day from Pembroke in South Wales. Five-night Spraoi B&B packages from £570 for a family of four, based on sharing a room with ferry crossings for the car and passengers. Ferry fares for two adults in their own car start at £299 return in August, while kids are free if booked by July 24. Foot-passenger fares start at £58 return.
