A fifth of women get a tan before their hols

Here at your-hols.com, we like a bit of colour before we go on holiday as much as the next person, so we’re flabbergasted to learn that just one in five women take to a sunbed before heading for warmer climes.

According to the research by an online travel agency, the majority stated that they did not want to look pale on their first day on the beach – knock us down with a feather again. Worryingly though, many claimed they believed a base tan would stop them getting sun burnt on holiday.

The research, which looked into the holiday preparations of  1,927 women from around the UK aged 21 and over, also showed that less than half of those questioned thought using a sunbed was dangerous.

Sunshine’s Chris Clarkson said: “Holidays shouldn’t be about getting a sun tan; they are about relaxing and spending time with family, friends or loved ones. There’re no two ways about it – using sunbeds is a dangerous habit and it’s something that should be avoided at all costs.

“So what if you look pale on a trip abroad; I’m sure you’ll be in the same boat as many other people there on their first day or two. Holidaymakers should always put their health and safety before vanity.”
