Crow about Croatia this summer

Croatia is set for a bumper year, predicts On the Beach after seeing an unprecedented 43 per cent increase in bookings for families to holiday there this summer.

The country has been threatening traditional holiday hotspots, such as Spain and Portugal, for several years because of its spectacular coastline and less crowded beaches. But the online travel company says, with Croatia’s 15 per cent cut on tourist tax and the country joining the EU later this year, 2013 will be a serious contender for Brits.

And Croatia will get even more attention from travel agents and holiday company bosses in the autumn when its most famous city Dubrovnik, renowned as the Pearl of The Adriatic, hosts the annual ABTA Travel Convention.

Victoria Bacon of ABTA said: “Croatia is a country that has it all, stunning world class cities and a lovely coastline dotted with unspoilt islands. We are delighted that Croatia will be hosting the convention in Dubrovnik and we have highlighted the country as one of our top tips for 2013 in our annual travel trends report.”

Alistair Daly, of On the Beach said: “More and more holidaymakers are looking to discover Croatia with bookings rocketing year on year. It is clear there is a real drive to increase tourist numbers to this beautiful beach destination and with joining the EU, securing ABTA’s conference and the tourist tax cut, 2013 looks set to be the long awaited, bumper year for Croatia.”
