Cut down on costs with Easter in Greece

If you’re looking to cut down on costs with an Easter break, then head to Greece. Orthodox Easter comes four weeks after our own and coincides with Spring Bank Holiday meaning you can enjoy a great break but at off-season prices.

Easter in Greece is celebrated with religious parades through the streets in the run up to Good Friday, when night-time church services culminate in celebrations of Christ rising from the dead at midnight on Saturday, after which time the festivities begin. Dyed red eggs are given as gifts, families get together for meals and picnics, tavernas and bars are buzzing with life and the aroma of traditional spit roast lamb fills the air.

Regional traditions take place throughout Greece and the islands, such as in Corfu Town where large pots are thrown from windows on Easter Sunday to rid the town of evil spirits, and on Saturday night there is traditional music and dancing whilst all the locals light candles to bring in the good spirits.
