Flybe goes for ginger passenger world record

Flybe heads into record books

How many redheads can you get on a plane? No, it’s not a joke but it’s asking for a punchline! To celebrate the Redhead Days (aka Roodharigen) in Breda, Holland, Flybe is flying a plane on Friday from Inverness to Amsterdam – full of redheads.

The pilot, crew and passengers will all be naturally ginger and be waved off by well-known Scottish redhead and MP Danny Alexander. Captain Gaeron Kayley (below) said: “I’ve always been proud of my natural red hair so it’s a real honour for me to pilot this special flight from Inverness to Amsterdam.

“The rest of the crew are redheads too and we are all really looking forward to welcoming many others on board as passengers. We hope everyone will enjoy the experience!”

Europe’s largest regional airline is hoping to create an unofficial world record by carrying the largest ever number of redheads on a scheduled passenger flight. Passengers will be served with appropriately-themed refreshments and offered ginger beer courtesy of Ginger Grouse.

Simon Lilley, Flybe’s Director of Marketing, says: “This is a fun initiative and we hope that everyone enjoys being a part of what we hope will create a little bit of aviation history.”

The flight marks the start of the annual three-day Dutch Redhead Days’ festival in Breda, expected to attract more than 5,000 redheads from around the world. Festival media manager, Mike Klaassen, who will also be on board, said: “I’m hugely excited to be part of this Flybe flight that will take many people from Scotland to Holland for this big celebration. The town of Breda is eagerly awaiting all the Flybe redheads coming our way and we are preparing a great welcome for them.”
