The feelgood factor from Bradley Wiggins Le Tour De France victory and the London Olympics velodrome success continues apace it seems – to the point where holiday company Explore has had to increase its number of cycling holidays thanks to increased demand.

The adventure and activity specialists are reporting an increase of more than 40 per cent on sales, and as a result, is offering an additional 18 departures across a range of its most popular tours.

The company has doubled the amount of departures on its eight-day moderate Southern Oasis tour of Morocco. The tour cycles through kasbahs, tribal villages and oases and explores the rock formations of the Todra Gorge. Travelling in the autumn and winter when temperatures are cooler, the tour costs from £779 per person to include return flights; six nights’ hotel and one night camping accommodation on a b&b basis. 

Another tour is demand is the eight day Canal du Midi tour of France. With an additional six departures now on offer, the easy graded cycling tour journeys along the tree-lined towpaths of the Canal du Midi, through the Minervois wine region and on to the Mediterranean coast. The tour costs from £905 per person and includes return flights; seven nights’ B&B hotel accommodation; bike hire; transport and the services of a tour leader and driver.

Explore’s 14 day Cycle Saigon to Hanoi tour is another popular option, with four additional departures on offer, bringing the total up to seven. This moderate graded tour journeys along rural backroads and into the highlands, visiting visit Saigon, Hoi An, Hue and Hanoi along the way. The tour costs from £1,897 per person and includes return flights; 11 nights’ hotel, one night train and one night junk accommodation (all on a B&B basis); three other meals; bike hire; transport and the services of a tour leader, driver and local guides.
