Go on Coronation Street Tour before it closes

Coronation Street tour

You’ve seen Coronation Street stars at their best in the live show – now go see where Britain’s best soap began.

You have just three months to visit the original set and follow in the footsteps of celebrities and royals who have walked on the famous cobbles.

Sadly, the Coronation Street Tour closes at the end of the year and, unless there is a late reprieve, the set will be demolished.

The Street moved to a much larger film set with better facilities for the actors at Media City nearly two years ago.

YourHols’ Trisha, a massive Corrie fan, had resisted going to the original Manchester filming location for fear it would take away the magic.

But, after being persuaded to visit by TV soap pundit and scriptwriter Sharon Marshall, Trisha says: “Everyone who has loved Corrie over the years should go on the tour, it’s fascinating.”

After being welcomed by a guide, you are taken backstage and past the main stars’ old dressing rooms including Ken (William Roache), Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) and Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox).

You get to guess which clothes belong to which character in the costume department, watch a film of show highlights over more than 50 years, see the inside of houses on the Street and props including the odd coffin or two.

But the highlight of the tour is standing behind the bar at the Rovers Return before stepping outside onto the cobbles.

Trisha says: “I almost squealed with joy at being in the Rovers. Was I a Bet or a Liz? The new set viewers see on TV now is an absolute replica of the old one I was in.

“I stood outside Tyrone’s clad-coloured house, Sally’s front door, The Kabin, Nick’s Bistro, Audrey’s and even sat at the bus stop.”
