Head to Swedish Lapland for half-term

Swedish Lapland

If you’re looking for something different to do with the kids at half-term, how about a dog-sledding or Nordic adventure skills holiday in Swedish Lapland?

Taber Holidays, which specialises in Scandinavia trips, has introduced a new family break to the Luleå archipelago, with departures on February 17 and 24.

The three-night trip includes a host of excursions, such as a Nordic Adventure Skills session where you will walk by snowshoe into the nearby forest, learn how to make a fire in the snow and cook and eat outdoors sat on reindeer hides.

There is also a two-hour dog sledding trip where you learn how to take control of the huskies and have the chance to drive the sled through snowy forests and upon frozen lakes.

The following day offers the chance to explore the frozen archipelago by snowmobile. The  tour spends four hours on the ice with a stop along the way to try a little ice fishing.

Nights can be spent chasing the Northern Lights – this winter is said to be the best time ever to see them – or cosying up in front of the fire at the wooden-clad Brändön Lodge (above), overlooking the frozen sea.

Three nights’ half-board starts from £1,650 per adult and £783 per child, including flights from London via Stockholm.
