Hiring a car this Easter? Well, when you hand it back check – and check again – that you haven’t left anything inside. Holiday Autos, the world’s largest car hire broker has just done a survey of items left in vehicles and the results are pretty hair-raising – literally.
Wigs were among the most unusual things people had forgotten together with a prosthetic leg, wedding dress, coffee machine, pair of expensive Jimmy Choo shoes and false teeth. The most common items were sunglasses, keys, passports and travel documents, money and wallets and Kindles! Oh, and those of us who think we are being clever by taking our own Satnavs on holiday to save money when renting a hire car should remember to take them out at the end of our trip!
Denise Parkhouse, Holiday Autos Global Head of Customer Services, said: “As you can imagine we’re always getting feedback from suppliers, which we use primarily to improve customer service. When you hear some of the stranger items that people leave in their cars it is amusing, but it’s not so funny if it’s a piece of luggage or the wallet containing travel documents.
“Ahead of the big Easter getaway and summer season our message is a simple reminder to travellers, to always leave time to have a good final check around the hire car, because every season there are sadly instances of people missing flights due to an avoidable [forgot to take everything out of the hire car!] delay.”
