Rouen it for mum…

rouen

You don’t have to break the bank to take mum abroad for Mother’s Day – not when you can get to the gorgeous town of Rouen in northern France for the price of a round of drinks with DFDS ferries.

Foot passengers can travel from Portsmouth to Le Havre or Newhaven to Dieppe from as little as £15 each way, or from £39 each way with a car and up to two passengers.

This Norman city (above), located in the Seine valley, is steeped in history and is easily accessible by both road and rail from the ports of Dieppe and Le Havre, about an hour away.

The city boasts a number of museums and churches, including the Notre-Dame cathedral, which was the subject of a series of paintings by impressionist artist Claude Monet.

Rouen is home to a range of boutiques full of antiques, art and food. In the region renowned for gastronomy, treat mum to lunch at one of the cafes or bistros along the river and indulge in some of the city’s delicacies such as crepes, croissants and the area’s famous camembert cheese!

There are up to two daily sailings on the Portsmouth to Le Havre route and up to four daily sailings between Newhaven and Dieppe
