Travel company offers chance to sleep in the Paris Catacombs

Here’s a real Halloween Fright Night. A travel company is offering an October 31 treat for two brave souls: the chance to be the first live people to sleep in the Paris Catacombs.
Airbnb had added the French capital’s mass grave to its places to stay – for one night only. During the night of October 31, just two guests will be allowed to spend the night 65 feet under the city, alongside the centuries-old remains of millions of Parisians, including the famous Jean de la Fontaine, Charles Perrault and François Rabelais.

After a private tour of the labyrinth of bones and skulls, the guests will enjoy a meal to the sound of violins before a storyteller regales them with tales of the crypt. The next morning, the two will be the first people ever to wake up and leave the Paris Catacombs.

Located south of the former city gate, the Catacombs of Paris contain the remains of millions of Parisians transferred there gradually between the late-18th and mid-19th centuries as city graveyards were closed due to public health risks.

Each year, 500,000 people from around the world visit the Catacombs, but this will be the very first time that people are allowed to spend the night there. This exclusive night is organized through a partnership which contributes to the financing of renovation works in the Catacombs. Special measures were put in place to ensure the safety of participants and the preservation of the ossuary.

How to win

For a chance to win this unique experience, visit the Catacombs’ listing on Airbnb no later than October 20th at 11.59pm (CET) and tell the host why you think you are brave enough to spend a night in theCatacombs.
