Tanzania tops safari poll

Tanzania-1205-0166

Tanzania has come top of some new research into the best safari offering in Africa.

Online booking engine SafariBookings.com asked more than 1,000 of its customers to provide reviews of the countries they had visited – and compiled some 2,300 reviews over two years in the painstaking research.

The reviewers rated the eight major safari countries and their wildlife parks, with ratings for wildlife, scenic beauty, wilderness vibe and birdlife.

To compliment the ‘user reviews’ notable guidebook writers, working for publishers such as Lonely Planet, Rough Guides, Fodor’s, Bradt and Footprint, teamed up in the SafariBookings Expert Panel and wrote an additional 756 expert reviews.

Tanzania came out as the clear winner. It received 4.8 out of 5 stars, beating its runner-up Botswana by about a tenth of a point. Rounding out the top five were Kenya, Zambia, and South Africa.

Tanzania was praised for its unfenced parks, dirt roads, and plains that stretch on endlessly, its superb wildlife viewing in a politically stable and safe country  and the chance to view the annual great migration where 2.5 million wildebeest and zebra migrate from Seregenti National Park in Tanzania to Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya.
