Wildlife lovers can holiday literally next door to the reserve at Caerlaverock Cottages, where Hollins Cottage sleeps four in two bedrooms, and Blossom Cottage sleeps eight in four. They are only a quarter of a mile walk from the reserve’s Visitor Centre, and a mile from the beach.

Three-night winter weekends start at £232 for Hollins Cottage or £332 for Blossom Cottage, with a week’s rental starting at £303 and £430 respectively.

The cottages are also well-placed for coastal walks, golf, sailing, and sightseeing, being close to medieval, moated Caerlaverock Castle and within 10 miles of Dumfries town.
