It’s British Pie Week, so where can you get the best pies? To celebrate the great classic dish, TripAdvisor reveals the 10 best-rated restaurants in the UK serving up this comforting, homely food.  

1.Black Sheep Bistro, Glasgow
An independent small, family run restaurant, the Black Sheep Bistro is to the north of Glasgow city centre and promises to serve meals like ‘you wish your mother did’. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Hidden gem of Glasgow – the steak pie was to die for.”

 2. Bryherstones Inn, Scarborough
Recently reopened and restored to its former glory, Bryherstones Inn sits between Cloughton and Staintondale in North Yorkshire. The inn boasts a large garden at the rear and a cosy bar and restaurant inside. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Sally’s steak pie is without doubt the best steak pie on offer anywhere.”

 3. Dave’s Restaurant, Mablethorpe
A family-run restaurant in Mablethorpe on the East Lincolnshire coast, Dave’s Restaurant (that’s their pie in the main picture) has been running for 27 years by its husband and wife team, Dave and Kate. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “The Steak & Stilton Pie should not be missed – awesome!”

4. Pie, Kingston-upon-Hull
This pie shop in Kingston-upon-Hull serves hot pies, soups, stews and carvery sandwiches – all homemade. Pie fillings include slow roast barbecue pulled pork, sausage with chorizo and borlotti bean and roasted butternut squash. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Came across Pie by chance – so glad we did. The pies are gorgeous – best we have ever come across.”

5. House of the Trembling Madness, York
The House of the Trembling Madness (above) is in a building which started life in 1180 as the first Norman house to be built in York. The restaurant and bar serves hearty, traditional food at any time of the day and sources produce from local, award-winning suppliers. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Possibly the best pie I’ve ever eaten. We had the game pie, which was amazing! The pie was so great we bought one to take home with us.”

6. Black Swan, Seahouses
This bar and restaurant, made famous for its huge pies, is at the South end of the Seahouses Harbour. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “Then we got the pie! OMG couldn’t believe the size of it, it was massive! Lots of lovely steak…plus fresh veg and homemade chips.

7. The Cottage Loaf, Llandudno
Nestled down a back street in the centre of Llandudno, The Cottage Loaf is a traditional village inn boasting a roaring log fire, gardens and a hearty menu serving fresh homemade dishes. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “The best food in town. Very nice old world pub in the centre of Llandudno and the steak and ale pie is to die for.”

8. The Royal Oak, Filey
Offering visitors local sourced produce and traditional pub grub as well as a selection of guest ales, The Royal Oak is near Filey and is run by Andy and Terry. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “The food is fantastic, Terry the owner describes it perfectly ’we serve feast food, not finger food’. The portions are huge! Everything is freshly cooked, from the vegetables to the steak pie (which could not possibly contain any more steak!!!)”

9. The Piemaker, Edinburgh
In the heart of Edinburgh, The Piemaker (above) serves original, homemade and freshly baked pies with over 50 different meat, veggie and sweet fillings. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “The haggis pie was a clear standout. The pastry is incredible.”

10. The Ship Inn, Irivne
Claiming to be the oldest pub in Irvine, The Ship Inn opened in 1754 and offers home cooked British food including a selection of hearty pies. As one TripAdvisor reviewer said, “I had the special steak, sausage & ale pie and it was the best I’ve ever had! I would highly recommend this place for a good quality fresh home cooked meal.”
