BA launches flights to Sri Lanka

BA Sri Lanka

BA launches flights to Sri Lanka on Sunday as the country celebrates New Year. Dancers from the Sri Saddhatissa International Buddhist Centre helped the airline mark the new service on the tarmac at Gatwick and on board a plane (below).

BA is offering return fares from £499 in World Traveller when booked by April 22. Flights will operate three-times-a-week between Gatwick and Colombo, via Male in the Maldives.

Peter Simpson, director of Gatwick, said: “This is an extremely exciting new route for us. The UK has the second largest number of tourists visiting the island after India so it’s a fantastic opportunity for them to fly there with British Airways from Gatwick. Sri Lanka has so much to offer visitors from beach, spa or adventure holidays, to cultural, wildlife and nature breaks.”

Seven nights half-board at the three-star Tangerine Beach Hotel in Sri Lanka from £659 per person, based on two people sharing, for travel in May and June, including return flights from Gatwick. Book by April 22.
