Costa Rica tourism bosses say they can’t wait to welcome more Brits to Costa Rica on the new direct BA flights.

There will be two flights a week from Gatwick from May 4 next year and three a week during the winter.

The Central American country’s minister of tourism Mauricio Ventura said yesterday: “It is wonderful news and demonstrates the success of our strategy to attract premium airlines to our country.

“Europe is a priority market for Costa Rica. So the start of this new route by British Airways will help attract tourists from across Europe and specifically from the United Kingdom, making it much easier for them to visit all the wonderful places Costa Rica has to offer modern holidaymakers.”

Costa Rica, nestled between Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south and bordered on the east by the Caribbean Sea and the west by the Pacific Ocean, attracts more than 2.4 million international visitors a year.

It’s a tropical paradise with lush rainforests, mystical volcanoes and cloud forests and beaches that meet mountains filled with monkeys and macaws. There’s a range of hotel options ranging from small beachside B&Bs, to authentic boutique mountain lodges and major international business hotels.
