More good news for Croatia after research earlier this week showed that the Post Office has seen record numbers of people buying the local currency, the kuna.

According to online travel agent On The Beach, bookings to Croatia are up 140 per cent.

Although the emerging holiday destination is still far from rivalling the traditional beach hot spots, Croatia is growing at a faster rate year on year, than family favourite destinations including Egypt, Portugal, Spain and its islands; making it the fastest growing beach destination of 2013.

On The Beach’s Alistair Daly said: “Croatia has been steadily increasing in popularity over the past five years and this latest surge suggests the country is now widely recognised as a great destination for a summer beach holiday. Bookings to Croatia are expected to continue to increase rapidly with the country joining the EU this summer, which is no doubt welcome news to its tourism trade.”
