Is this the cruise ship of the future?

cruise ship of the future

We’re not sure how seaworthy it would be given the strange three-pronged shape, but this is what the cruise ship of the future is going to look like according to cruise specialists www.bonvoyage.co.uk

The concept considers the possibility of populating a floating metropolis with so much entertainment that passengers would potentially be loath to set foot on dry land during their cruise.

With so many options to while away the hours on board, the sea-faring cities wouldn’t need to speed from port to port offering cultural days out; the emphasis would be shifted from speed through the water to comfort and aesthetic appeal. With multiple helipads, passengers could join the cruise at any time so the giant ships wouldn’t even necessarily need to dock.

According to the vision, the central pod of the ship is surrounded by three luxury hotels, which passengers can board by navigating underwater bridges. The walls of the bridges are translucent so passengers can enjoy a spectacular view while crossing. The hotels are surrounded by a translucent facade that can open and rotate in fair weather, while the main island is partially protected by another much larger tessellated structure.

Steph Curtin of bon voyage said: “One of the most exciting things about working in the cruise business is the anticipation of what’s going to happen next in this ever-changing industry of ours, and this concept design has got to be the absolute dream!

“One of my favourite features the designers came up with is that of the on-board entertainment. Collected together on the central pod of the ship are rollercoasters and waterslides for children, a park for lazing in the sun, a pool that sits right on the lip of the deck and a stadium for entertaining crowds. Below deck, entertainment would include cinemas, bowling alleys and an extensive choice of restaurants.”
