Edinburgh gets UK’s first Motel One

Budget-design chain hotel Motel One has opened its first UK hotel in Edinburgh.

The trailblazing German chain that proves cheap doesn’t have to mean gloomy design launched the hotel on bustling Market Street, a stone’s throw from Waverley Railway Station on December 31.  The building is a conversion of the original 16th and 18th Century properties which once stood in its place and great care has gone into conserving as much of the historic walls as possible.

The chic hotel’s interior boasts luxurious accents such as Arne Jacobsen turquoise egg chairs (which feature a special Motel One tartan print for the Edinburgh hotel) and the distinctive ARCO lamp by Achille Castiglioni. All rooms are equipped with a comfortable double bed, flat screen TV, air-conditioning and an en suite bathroom. Free Wi-Fi access is available in the communal One Lounge. The hub of the hotel, the One Lounge is a lobby, bar and cafeteria rolled into one! iPAD’s are also provided upon the guest’s request.

The hotel plans to further expand in the UK with a second Edinburgh property in Autumn and two London hotels in 2014.

Rooms start from £69 per night.
