Here’s a guide to tempt you to visit The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. The 2013 free book is brimming with beautiful images of the wildlife and the ancient landscape you can find in the region.

The 40,000 copies of the guide produced by the local council will be put into hotels, tourist information centres, libraries, airports and GOoutdoors shops nationwide. But you can request or download a copy at www.visitforestofdean.co.uk

The 52-page guide showcases the best of the region whether visiting for a day, weekend, or longer. It includes places to stay, activities, attractions, heritage sites, restaurants and craft producers. It also has a detachable map, complete with a Forest Bingo game to keep youngsters entertained.

James Moverley, of Forest of Dean Mountain Bike Guides, said: “I have spent most of my adult life enjoying the great outdoors around the world, but whatever the season there is always an excuse to get out and enjoy what the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley has to offer.”

Council leader Patrick Molyneux said: “Tourism is a very important part of our local economy – in 2011 it accounted for seven per cent of our local employment and generated in excess of £125 million. Working closely with our tourism partners to produce this latest guide has provided the opportunity to drive more visitors to the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley area, supporting local business and jobs and boosting the local economy.”
