40 new holidays for over-55s

Grand UK Holidays, which specialises in holidays for over-55s, has launched its 2014 brochure which includes 40 new trips.

The company celebrates its 30th anniversary next year and the new brochure includes 26 tours in the UK and Ireland, 10 in Europe, four river cruises and two holidays by train.

Grand UK Holidays took its first trip to Bournemouth in 1984 and has since taken more than a million mature holidaymakers on tips exploring the best of Britain and Europe.

New holidays in the 2014 brochure include:

* Two ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ experiences marking the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One, taking customers to Flanders Fields and the Somme (above).

* A new Bournemouth trip based on the D-Day landings called ‘Bournemouth and D-Day’.It includes trips to see the command post at Southwick House, the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth, and other associated sites in Weymouth and Portland.

* Cambridge, Duxford & Bletchley Park – which explores the world of the famous wartime code-breakers as well as the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

There are also a number of themed breaks on offer, including  ‘Medieval Magic’, which boasts a medieval banquet in a castle, as well as a range of new garden holidays, including trips to see the RHS Malvern Gardening Show; the ‘Secret Gardens of Yorkshire’s East Riding’; ‘Ireland in Bloom’; and ‘Holland in Bloom’.
