Hotel rooms booked to “get it on”

What a saucy lot we are. A quarter of Brits admit booking a hotel room just to “get it on” and the majority with someone they’ve only just met – just like Edward (Richard Gere) and Vivian (Julia Roberts) in the blockbuster romantic movie Pretty Woman.

It turns out that last-minute bookings are not always because people need somewhere to sleep. In a poll into booking habits, 26 per cent said they had got a room “to get intimate”. A third said it was a planned rendezvous and had been booked in advance but double that number said it had been a spontaneous last-minute fling.

So who did the person paying for the room take along for a night of nookie? Nearly half of those polled said it was with someone they’d only just met, a third with a someone they knew and 17 per cent with someone they were in a relationship with. Just over a tenth admitted booking a room not knowing who they’d take there and, out of everyone, the average number of times they’d gone to a hotel for sex was 20!

The poll was carried out by new Hot Hotels app Hot.co.uk which aims to offer large discounts on hotel rooms available to them on the same day, in cities nationwide. Users can search for and book rooms directly through the app, and rooms for the same night can be booked as late as 3am.

Conor O’Connor, co-founder of Hot.co.uk, said: “We wanted to discover why people often book rooms so late into the night when, let’s face it, there’s not much time left to sleep anyway. It seems that our name was bang on the money, and hotels around the UK are indeed proving themselves to be ‘hot’ in more ways than one! Judging by the responses we got and the number of people who have booked a hotel room in order to get it on, it’s clear people have somewhat saucier reasons to book a hotel last minute; and it’s not just because they’re stranded somewhere late at night!”
