Scream and Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s ICON will go faster!

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has today, April 1, announced an £8m plan for riders of the UK’s first double launch rollercoaster ICON to control how fast it goes!

The exhilarating revamp will see ICON become the the world’s first ever rollercoaster to be powered by the volume of riders’ screams.

Using state-of-the-art technology, special monitors will record the intensity of euphoric cries, sending pressure waves direct to the engine management system. The louder the scream, the greater the energy of the pressure wave and the faster ICON will travel. Early tests reveal that screams measuring 140db, the sound of a jet engine at 100ft, will see the ride reach a staggering 90km per hour.

The announcement comes less than a year after the launch of the world’s most interactive rollercoaster. Speaking on the announcement, Blackpool Pleasure Beach boss Amanda Thompson said: “We are absolutely thrilled to announce such exciting plans for ICON. Once again, we will be pushing the boundaries of technology with a pioneering new design that will put the experience directly in the hands, or should I say voices, of our riders. Scream and you will quite literally go faster.

“We’re incredibly proud to be the first to develop this remarkable technology with our partners Mack Rides, and cannot wait to start construction at the end of the year.”

The Scream If You Want To Go Faster project will be finalised and ready for ride fanatics by spring next year. For on-going information throughout the project journey, details on the development of the ride and expected launch date, please visit www.blackpoolpleasurebeach.com
