If you don’t ski or can’t get away from work this half-term, send the kids off with activity holiday company PGL. They’ve discounted remaining places on its Austrian ski and snowboard holiday for unaccompanied 13 to 17-year-olds from February 16 by £90.

The package which includes supervised return overnight coach travel and seven nights’ full board at the youth-hotel Egger in Villach, as well as six days’ hire of boots, skis and poles, a six-day lift pass, five hours’ ski tuition on each of six days, and winter sports and travel insurance costs from £849 per child. Departures from London or Dover, with supplements for pick-up in Manchester and Birmingham. Snowboard prices, also discounted by £90, now start at £869.

The Egger has a media room with big screen for showing the latest DVDs, plus a disco and a table tennis room. Evening entertainment, organised and supervised by PGL may include a visit to Villach’s bowling centre and ice-rink.
