Sun really does shine on Maldives, Becks

Don’t worry if you’re planning a trip to the Maldives, it doesn’t rain a lot! Soccer star David Beckham paid up to £250,000 to take his family there for Christmas – but left the Indian Ocean islands after it poured down.

Becks and Victoria and their four children booked to stay for 11 nights at the luxurious One & Only Reethi Rah resort, splashing out  on suites costing up to £8,600 a night. But after constant rain, the family packed their bags on Boxing Day and flew off again!

You can visit the Maldives, normally hot and sunny at this time of year, for an awful lot less than Becks. British Airways is offering seven nights for the price of six at Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort from £1,289 per person. Book by January 22 for selected departures between May 1 and July 1. The price includes return flights from London, accommodation in a deluxe room on a half-board basis, speedboat transfers, taxes and surcharges.

Olhuveli is surrounded by a vast sandy, award-winning beach and a crystal clear lagoon. There’s a selection of restaurants and bars, two large pools, a Sun Spa and a watersports centre with one of the only registered kite-surfing schools in the Maldives.
