Get on the Wight side of dad

Isle of Wight railway

Red Funnel have come up with lots of ideas for how to entertain dad on Father’s Day. For starters, take him across the Solent on one of their ferries from Southampton (unless you live there of course!). And then choose one of the following treats for him:

Wine tours at Rosemary Vineyard: Rosemary Vineyard spans 30 acres of Isle of Wight countryside, and is one of the largest producers of English wine – from full-bodied reds to sparkling wines, ciders and liqueurs. Until October, there are free guided winery tours Saturday to Tuesday, giving an insight into the winemaking process as well as offering the chance to taste some of the wine. All you’ll be paying for is the ferry at £9.40 per person, based on a family of four, including a car.

Journey on Isle of Wight Steam Railway: For train-mad dads, the award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway (above) offers a great day out. Take a ride on one of the vintage steam locomotives and journey back to Edwardian and Victorian times, passing through five miles of unspoiled countryside. Visitors can save up to a third on attraction tickets when booking crossings with Red Funnel. A family of four can spend the day at the railway for £13.80 per person including ferry.

A round at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club: This 18-hole golf course is famed for its natural beauty and challenges, with the fifth and 13th holes two of the best to play anywhere in the south of England. Treat dad and a friend to a round of golf at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club from £58.75, including ferry.

Real Island ale at The Chine: The Chine in Shanklin is reportedly the oldest pub on the Isle of Wight, dating back to 1620. The pub serves three ales from island breweries including Goddards Standard Bitter and the Fuggle De Dum – take your choice and pull up a chair on the patio to enjoy the stunning views out over the coast. Visit from £18.75 per person including ferry.

Boys’ weekend away: Treat dad to a little luxury, with a two night break for two people at Luccombe Hall Country House Hotel. A two-night stay over the Father’s Day weekend costs from £199 per person, based on two sharing a twin ensuite room, and includes return vehicle crossings with Red Funnel.

Family break with dad: A family of four can enjoy a two night stay at The Wellington Hotel over the Father’s Day weekend from £90.25 per person. This price is based on a family of four sharing an ensuite double room, with two additional beds for children, and includes breakfast and return vehicle crossings with Red Funnel.
