Is Wookey graffiti attack a publicity stunt?

If the bosses of Wookey Hole Caves are to be believed, the Somerset tourist attraction has been the victim of graffiti vandals today.

The site in the Mendip Hills has been sending out progressive press releases throughout the day, claiming that an unknown artist abseiled into to caves and sprayed a host of art work on a tunnel that leads into them.

Several news media have reported on the ‘attack’, including ITV News, This Is The West Country and radio station Heart.

Later updates from the Caves came with images of the drawings and the suggestion that as the caves are near to Bristol, the work could well have been done by one of the world’s best-known graffiti artists, Banksy.

We’re a bit more cynical here at YourHols – and we’re putting our money on it all being a clever publicity stunt.

Nonetheless, it’s been an interesting respite from a slow news day, and the summer holidays do denote the start of ‘silly season’ in the press.

We’ll let you decide…
