Which is Italy’s best ski resort?

Italy's best ski resort

Cortina d’ampezzo is celebrating scooping the title of Italy’s Best Ski Resort in the inaugural World Ski Awards – the Oscars of the ski world. And the icing on the cake is – the town’s Cristallo Hotel Spa and Golf won the award for Italy’s Best Ski Hotel 2013.

President of Cortina Turismo, Stefan Illing, who received the award at a glittering ceremony in Kitzbühel, Austria, said: “We are honoured and proud to receive this award, which confirms Cortina’s position in the premier league of international ski resorts.

“People love Cortina for its beauty and we are lucky to be located in the world’s most spectacular mountains, the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage area, but to me, this award is also a result of our continuous efforts to constantly improve the resorts and to give our guests the best experience possible.

“Undoubtedly, Cortina’s candidacy for the 2019 Ski World Cup will further boost this process and leave a positive legacy on the resort in the form of further improvements in infrastructure and services.”

Cortina d’Ampezzo – the Queen of the Dolomites – beat stiff competition from other Italian resorts to win the Italian crown. Cortina’s winter season starts on the weekend of December 6-8 and celebrates with the Cortina Fashion Weekend, when shops in the renowned Corso Italia stay open late and  the town centre is buzzing with live music, art, food and Prosecco!
