See Game of Thrones’ Iceland

Hit TV series Game of Thrones returns to our screens at the end of this month – and you can visit the film locations with a trip to Iceland and its untouched wilderness.

The HBO smash based on the novels by George R. R. Martin saw scenes filmed in the north of Iceland around Lake Mývatn near Akureyri. The team – including Kit Harington who plays Jon Snow (above) – filmed for eight days, shooting scenes which will air in the first five episodes of the 10-episode season.

To follow in their footsteps, WOW Air has flights from Gatwick to Reyjavik from £95 one way.

“The cult HBO series showcased Iceland in season two and now our country will once again be beamed into people’s homes for the third season which is great news for us,” says Svana Fridriksdottir, Director of Communications at WOW Air. “Visiting our beautiful glaciers, treading on our black sand beaches and visiting our thunderous waterfalls are all pastimes of those who’ve set-jetted before. Game of Thrones will ensure the high profile of the country is upheld.”

From June 3, the airline will be increasing its flights into Reyjavik to two a day from Sunday to Friday. Saturday will see one daily flight remain.
